The Funeral

My 8 year old daughter came home from school with a baby bird. She said that she found it before school started and it was still there after school so she brought it home with her. It looked like it was injured. Her and her sister and friends tried to nurture it. They placed it outside before going to bed, and I think a Cat must of ended the poor birds life.

In the morning they just found a pile of feathers around the yard. So, they did what all sweet, tender hearted girls would do, they had a funeral for the bird. I took a few pictures to capture the moment.
The first picture is of them digging the hole, when they saw the camera they told each other to look sad. I can't help but giggle about how sad they look.

These are the flowers they picked for the birds grave.

I heard beautiful music playing outside, Alyson brought her CD player and had her Primary songs playing for the funeral. It was such a sweet moment. They all stood around the birds grave and bowed their heads, and said a little prayer. I didn't want them to know I was watching, so I didn't get too close.

But, I am so glad I got to witness the tender hearts that they all have for God's creations. What a great thing it is being a Mom.

They do look sad. I remember doing that frequently as a child- I was always finding some helpless animal- and then having a funeral a few days (or hours) later.

I remember doing the exact same thing as a child. Some things never change. Thank Heavens!
